Natural Gas

Although gas boilers are not 100% efficient, this is usually the cheapest way to heat your home if you are not using a renewable method like solar thermal with gas typically costing around 5 pence per kilowatt hour compared to 16p for electricity. For most people gas is the cheapest fuel to heat our homes today and it is flexible too in terms of switching supplier.
Of course, if your property does not currently have a gas system installed you need to take into consideration the cost of installation. Likewise, it won’t be feasible for you if you don’t have the option of connecting your property to the gas grid.

Pros: the cheapest non-renewable way of heating your home, flexible

Cons: not 100% efficient, could be pricey to install, not available to all customers

Indicative annual cost: £848
