Action in Caerau & Ely (ACE)

ACE (Action in Caerau & Ely) is a community developed charity owned and run by the residents of Ely and Caerau in West Cardiff. The charity develops and delivers different projects and activities to regenerate and improve the communities of Ely and Caerau. Their work includes activities, from delivering the Welsh Government Communities First programme in Cardiff West, to working with individuals to help support and encourage community shaped ideas.

Through this project, ACE will provide advice and ongoing support to help vulnerable people in the area to take control of their energy costs by improving energy efficiency, switching to cheaper tariffs / payment methods and better management of fuel debt

This project will adopt an innovative “co-production” approach by enabling members of their target community to work with ACE staff to design and deliver energy advice and support activities. This builds on ACE’s successful track record of developing projects in collaboration with local people. Project activities will be delivered by a part time project worker from ACE, based in the Dusty Forge Centre in Ely, who will work with a team of 4 volunteer “energy coaches”. The volunteers will receive training and support from NEA and ACE to help motivate people to take actions controlling their energy costs. The volunteer team will include people with experience of living in fuel poverty, a personal understanding of common barriers to taking action, first-hand knowledge of the community and an ability to build trusting relationships with our target group.

You can read their first quarterly progress report here.
In June 2016 the Ebico Trust had visited the project. Check out the how the visit went here.
