Blackburn with Darwen – Bill Busters Project

a longstanding health issue in the area leading to high levels of excess winter deaths and hospital admissions

Blackburn with Darwen Healthy Living is a Lancashire based charity that aims to reduce the levels of health risks for their community. Blackburn with Darwen is an authority with some of the highest levels in the country with one in four household in energy need. It is a longstanding health issue in the area leading to high levels of excess winter deaths and hospital admissions. In fact, it was estimated that cold homes had led to 186 excess winter deaths in the year before the project started.

Our funding meant that the charity could afford to take on one full time trained energy efficiency advisor. They carry out home visits to those lacking in confidence or unaware of grants and benefit entitlements such as the Warm Home Discount. The client and advisor are able to work together to identify ways of saving energy such as good deals on the market and generally provide support to those in fuel debt.
