Energy for the Future is an energy advice programme delivered by Your Homes Newcastle for Newcastle City Council and the Byker Trust.
An unusual feature of this programme was that the project involved home visits by two team members. One focussed on behavioural change by getting the client to focus on things like understanding their bill and the ease of switching supplier. The other carried out a variety of building checks such as cavity wall and loft insulation and draught-proofing. Then they would install products right away to reinforce the message like energy efficient light-bulbs and heat-reflecting radiator panels.
At the conclusion of the project, Your Homes Newcastle conducted research to assess the project’s outcomes. This revealed that:
- 76% of households visited felt they had reduced their energy bills.
- 87% thought they were heating their homes more comfortably.
- On average they estimated they were getting annual savings of £180 thanks to the visits.
