The Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT) project was run from the Coventry office of National Energy Action. NEA is a national charity which aims to eradicate fuel poverty and campaigns for greater investment in energy efficiency to help those who are poor and vulnerable.
Ebico’s funding went towards providing bespoke telephone advice and face-to-face visits. What was innovative about this project was that it delivered both energy and debt advice at the same time. Money advisers are not usually trained up on energy; while they may enable a client to pay off a high fuel bill, they cannot give the advice which might prevent its recurrence. Fuel debt cases are complex and many households only seek support when the situation is desperate.
Over the twelve months’ life of the project, well over a thousand fuel poor households were given direct help and £24,000 of their fuel debt was managed. In addition it helped them access £47,600 of additional support through local hardship funds, tariff changes and fuel debt write-offs.Back to Projects
